We’re on the lookout for two devs to join our thriving technical studio. Here’s why CookiesHQ could be the perfect fit for you.
CookiesHQ is a small, dynamic development agency that turns ideas into bespoke digital products. Our studio is based in the technical hub of Bristol, UK, but we work with organisations all around the globe.
Partnering with early-stage and growing startups, we prototype, market test and create websites, apps, marketplaces, voice apps, CRMs and dashboards. Our clients love us because we’re fair and accurate in our estimations, and not afraid to challenge their ideas. We value openness and honesty so we communicate clearly and always own up to our mistakes (and fix them in a timely manner).
We work hard but value a healthy work/life balance. There are little things that make CookiesHQ a good place to work – team days out, fresh fruit deliveries and time set aside for learning new skills. But we also enjoy bigger benefits like working from home and flexible hours.
We’re growing steadily and currently have openings for two developers with complementary levels of experience.
The roles
We’re looking to add two full-stack developers to our team – one with 2-3 years’ experience, the other with 4-6 years’ experience. These are both full-time roles of five days a week, 9am to 5.30pm. Both roles can either be worked from our studio in Southville, Bristol, or from any location within two hours of the UK’s timezone.
Responsibilities
Our day-to-day development language is Ruby, but we also maintain some PHP codebases (mostly WordPress). On the JavaScript side, we use whatever works best for the job at hand. This could mean using large libraries like React or Vue – or no library at all.
Overall, we maintain around 12 codebases for different clients, so you need to be confident at switching from one project to another.
Skills and experience
Our ideal candidates will already have some strong Ruby and Ruby on Rails commercial experience, ideally in an agency environment. Lavarel experience will be considered, but you would need to be open to learning Ruby on Rails pretty rapidly. Knowledge of Agile methodologies is a must, as well as a desire to learn new skills and languages.
Since we’re all multi-disciplinary, experience of writing maintainable JavaScript would be appreciated. Any experience with the rest of the tools in our belt is a bonus, particularly for the more senior role. These include:
- Elasticsearch
- Heroku
- SaSS
- CSS
- Webpack
- WordPress
- AWS
- Ansible
- Capistrano
- Codeship.
We like to hire people that enjoy working within a busy team and those that understand that ‘done is better than perfect’.
Salary and benefits
The salary range will vary depending on experience. Benefits include:
- pension scheme and life insurance
- 25 days of holiday, plus bank holidays
- learning and development opportunities
- conference budget.
