A new programme has been announced by TechSPARK to help tackle the issue of diversity in the South West tech cluster. SHIFT is a free course that will provide twelve individuals from underrepresented groups with the skills and backing to go on to become the region’s tech conference speakers, board members and mentors. Together, they will bring new insights, inspire others and shift the perception of the types of people who are a part of the cluster.
As well as an in-depth speaking and confidence course, the programme aims to connect participants with key figures within the region’s thriving tech community at invite-only events – which comes with exclusive access to speaking opportunities, conferences, judging panels and more.
Backed by Bristol’s tech hub Engine Shed, the University of the West of England and specialist recruitment agency, Thatchers, the course will empower women, people from black and ethnic minority groups and other underrepresented communities.
CookiesHQ recognise that there are many talented unrepresented voices in our region, so we’re delighted to support the SHIFT initiative to celebrate those diverse communities.
SHIFT are looking for support from people who are under-represented in the tech and digital industry. This could include those identify as women, people from BAME backgrounds, people who are LGBT+, people with disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
