CookiesHQ is a remote-first company. We actively encourage our team to work from home, a coffee shop or wherever they feel most comfortable when they need to, but we also know that it can be difficult to spend a lot of time by yourself. To help others who are in a similar situation, we decided to open up our office for people to come work with us.
It’s good to work around others at least some of the time (no, you’re not “bloody Ibiza”). Whilst working for yourself means that you can set your hours and be your own boss, it can also be incredibly lonely. One of the main things many freelancers miss is having a place to discuss their work with others. Just having someone else’s company in the room can be a big boost to morale.
So, we thought it would be good to extend an invitation to local freelancers and remote workers to use our meeting room. This will be an event that we’ll run on a Wednesday, once a month and we’ll be calling them our Open Desk Days. Even better? It’s completely free of charge. We’re a friendly bunch and we like to make new friends, but more than that, we wanted to give back to freelancers and remote workers who are striving to do their best out there without a team behind them.
Situated in Southville, the office is out of the way and a nice commute in the morning. Not only that, but it’s just a short walk from North Street, with its’ many places to eat and drink of a lunchtime. As well as a space to work, we hope you might want to get to know us and perhaps even collaborate on things in the future.
To start with, we’ll be limiting these events to 6 spaces per session. This might expand if it becomes popular, but in the meantime, if you’d like to sign up, put your name down on our Meetup page. If you don’t get in for the first one, we won’t leave you hanging; we’ll add you to the waiting list, so you won’t miss out. There’ll be tea, coffee and water provided throughout the day and, perhaps – if you’re lucky – there might even be some biscuits or baked goods going around, as well.
One of our other key features for open desk days is that we have a device lab available for anyone who comes to work here for the day can use – purchasing a variety of devices to be able to test your work on is hugely expensive and not an option for most freelancers. Device labs that are open to the public are also few and far between. Whilst we don’t have every device known to man, we do have some of the latest and most popular tablets and phones on the market that use both iOS and Android.
