I went to the Mumpreneur Conference last Saturday in Birmingham and the first speaker was Hazel Cushion, a mum who started a million-pound publishing company, Accent Press, after giving birth to triplets.
Her story was truly inspirational, and the one that really stood out for me, probably because she travelled the world and works in the book industry, 2 things I wish I could do one day. But that’s another story.
At the end of her talk, she shared with the audience 4 tips, which could be useful to any entrepreneur, not just mums.
1. Make every day a school day
Never stop learning. Learn new skills and technologies. Learn about your own industry. Go out, meet people and create your network.
2. Harvest your history
Use your previous experiences and put it all into your business. You build a skill set over the years, working with different people and in different roles.
3. Get your kids involved
You can start and build a business and be a parent at the same time. It is your opportunity to show your children how business works and what you can achieve with hard work and passion.
4. Celebrate your mistakes
Don’t let the fear of failing hold you back!
That’s why I love this conferences: you always come home full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to work your heart off to succeed. Let’s do it!
