The start to 2021 has been a busy on here at CookiesHQ – yet another Lockdown hit, we’ve launched the Smart Cookies Breakfast Club, released some new podcast episodes and waved goodbye to a long-term Cookie. Let’s take a look at what’s been happening…
Smart Cookies is back!
Much like the rest of the world, Covid-19 rather scuppered our 2020 plans – including the amazing Smart Cookies events we had lined up. We’ve missed them so much that we’ve taken them online and reformatted for the era of staying at home.
Why?
Between homeschooling, Zoom meetings and Slack pings, it’s hard to find the time to learn something new these days.
Enter the Smart Cookies Breakfast Club: Bitesize chunks of top quality content to help you take your business to the next level, all before 9am!
When?
We’re inviting experts to host short, sharp, go-getter sessions every other Friday morning, 8.30-9am – providing you with top quality content and tips that you can start implementing that very day.
Where?
Kicking off on Friday with 7 costly mistakes to avoid when someone else is building your app – hosted by our very own Nic Alpi! Sign up to join us.
The most adorable podcast episode ever?
Lockdown 3.0 is here, and homeschooling is back on the agenda. So, who better for Nic and Nat to sit down with for our first podcast of the year than their home co-workers – ahem, kids – Timmy (8) and Alice (6)?
As Nic and Nat are married co-founders, the kids have been involved in the CookiesHQ journey through the years, getting to know staff and clients.
Timmy and Alice share what they really think Mum and Dad do, how they rate homeschooling vs going to school, and whether they think they’ll be joining Cookies when they’re older. And of course, kids being kids they love to ask questions. So, we let them!
The Stornaway story...
Nic and Nat met Kate and Ru for the first time about 18 months ago and immediately loved their startup idea and connected with them on a personal level.
Stornaway is their baby, an idea that has been bubbling inside Ru’s head for years and has finally made it out into the world in May last year. And we’re so grateful that they chose CookiesHQ to make it happen! The platform is a true labour of love and passion – for storytelling and video production on their side, for tech challenges and intuitive apps on our side.
Just before New Year, Nic and Nat sat down with them for an honest chat about founding a tech startup, working together as a couple and trusting your instinct to grow your business.
Goodbye Denis 😢
At the end of January we waved goodbye to Denis after 6 years at CookiesHQ!
He joined us a part-time junior PHP developer. Nic trained him up in Ruby on Rails and he took on every challenge we threw at him – working his way up to senior developer and back-end tech lead. Of course we are sad to see him go, but we’re so excited for him to be moving on to a new challenge with a company that is so lucky to have him, and wish him all the best in his new role.
In his exit feedback, Denis said (and he’s given us permission to share this): “This has been the best job I have ever had, and it has set the gold standard of how employment should be.”
